Dengue Patient Escapes Hospital: 61-Year-Old on the Run
A 61-year-old woman, who was diagnosed with dengue fever, left Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam National Hospital without permission on February 9th.
She had been under observation since February 8th. A nurse alerted the hospital administration.
Police are searching for this resident of Triolet, who is 1.80 meters tall and of sound mind.
As of 9 February, Mauritius has recorded 686 cases of dengue, with 444 currently active and almost 100 patients are currently hospitalised.
Dr. Kursheed Meethoo-Badulla, NCD Coordinator at the Ministry of Health, notes that approximately 40 to 60 cases are being reported daily.
Dengue cannot be spread directly from person to person. However, a person infected and suffering from dengue fever can infect other mosquitoes.
Humans are known to carry the infection from one country to another or from one area to another during the stage when the virus circulates and reproduces in the blood system.
