Recruitment Row Sparks Controversy at Mahatma Gandhi Institute
A temporary contract employment of a former high-ranking official from the Rabindranath Tagore Institute (RTI) has sparked tensions at the Mahatma Gandhi Institute (MGI), which manages the RTI.
A letter was sent to the Financial Crimes Commission to “denounce” this recruitment, but the MGI leadership is not pleased with these allegations.
Employees were called in for questioning on Tuesday, July 23, and risk being transferred.
The recruitment, made under the Emergency Procurement process, has raised eyebrows.
The former high-ranking official was hired for a six-month period to “continue and complete two projects.
” According to Defi Media’s sources, the official had retired at the age of 65 but remained strongly attached to the institution.
The contract, which ended several months ago, produced no tangible results but was renewed for six more months with the same remuneration.
The contract stipulated that the official was receiving a monthly salary of over Rs 80,000, plus salary compensation at approved rates.
Additionally, he received an allowance of over Rs 10,000 for transportation.
The MGI management was informed of these allegations earlier this week, but a dramatic turn of events unfolded.
Employees were summoned for urgent explanations and received “threats” from the management for allegedly leaking information related to the recruitment.
The Ministry of Education may also be informed of the situation, and sanctions are expected against those who made the denunciations.
Several questions remain unanswered. Why was the former high-ranking official hired instead of another individual?
If this mission is truly urgent, why did RTI not conduct a permanent recruitment?
The MGI director, Raj Rampertab, was contacted by phone to provide clarification on the recruitment of the former official.
He requested “a little time” to study the case. However, as of Wednesday afternoon, July 24, no response had been received. He was also contacted three times by phone without success.
