Market traders at the Forum site in Curepipe are facing difficulties due to dust clouds from the construction of the Urban Terminal. These traders have raised concerns about the conditions they are working in since the start of construction work.

The dust from the site is impacting both the tenants and the dwindling clientele. Sanitary conditions are poor, with leaks in the roof, presence of rats and wild monkeys, and damaged stalls. Former deputy Adrien Duval has spoken out about the lack of consultation with the traders before the works started.

Mayor Devika Pabaroo has promised a relocation plan for the traders. Some tenants have been at the Forum site since 1991 and are disappointed by the current situation. The construction project is expected to span over three years.

The traders are unhappy about the lack of prior notice before construction began. Dust, rats, and rain are causing significant challenges for the traders. They risk suffering financial losses due to these issues.

Overall, the traders are frustrated by the conditions and lack of consideration during the construction process. The deteriorated tarpaulins and roof no longer provide adequate protection. The excavation works have limited parking spaces, causing further inconvenience.

Mayor Devika Pabaroo acknowledges that communication about the construction works could have been better. The traders will be relocated to a new site to avoid the current challenges they are facing.
