Mauritius-based telecommunications company Emtel has been crowned the fastest internet mobile network in East Africa by the connection analysis platform Ookla, for the first two quarters of 2024. Additionally, Emtel has secured the 38th position globally.
The announcement was made by Emtel during a press conference at its Ebène premises on July 16, 2024.
According to Ookla, the ranking is based on speed tests conducted by users for both upload and download speeds.
“This is a first for Emtel and the country to have the fastest internet mobile network in East Africa,” said Kresh Goomany, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Emtel.
“It’s a pride for Emtel to receive the award for the second time as the fastest network in Mauritius, and a major achievement to be the first to receive this award for East Africa.
We dedicate these recognitions to our customers and employees who have worked hard to achieve this level. Emtel will continue to bring the best technologies to Mauritius.”
Ookla’s analysis is based on real-world tests conducted by users, providing an accurate assessment of internet speeds across various networks globally.
The ranking is a testament to Emtel’s commitment to providing fast and reliable internet services to its customers.
With this achievement, Emtel cements its position as a leading telecommunications provider in Mauritius and East Africa, setting a new benchmark for internet speeds in the region.
