Mauritian Father Fights for Justice as Son Denied School Placement

Mauritian social activist Rajen Valayden has filed a complaint against the Ministry of Education, seeking clarification as to why his son was not accepted into MGSS Moka following the PSAC exams.

The ministry officials are required to provide an explanation in court next week regarding Shankaram Valayden’s lack of placement at the institution, with Rajen Valayden alleging that less qualified candidates were given preference.

Despite achieving the highest marks in all subjects, Shankaram Valayden was informed on the day of the results that he could not be accommodated at MGSS Moka.

Rajen Valayden argues that his son has been subjected to discrimination under several constitutional and education-related articles.

Efforts to address the issue with education authorities have been unsuccessful, leaving Shankaram Valayden without a college place for the current school year.

Rajen Valayden claims that less qualified candidates were admitted to MGSS Moka through the transfer process, and candidates from more distant regions were given consideration.

Rajen Valayden believes that his son’s activism on human rights and environmental issues over the past twenty years has made him a target of discrimination.

The case is set to be heard in court this Monday, where MES will have to clarify the allocation process and provide a list of all candidates who secured admission to the institution.

Rajen Valayden also demands that his son be admitted based on meritocracy.
