British Dad Disappears at Sea Rescuing Son in Mauritius

A British father is feared dead after he disappeared in the sea while attempting to rescue his drowning son during a holiday in Mauritius.

The tragic incident occurred at the Pomponette lagoon, a popular spot for tourists on the southern coast of the island.

The 15-year-old boy got into trouble on Saturday morning, prompting his father, aged 49, to jump in and try to save him.

However, the father was swept away by large waves and tragically vanished, local media sources reported.

Despite a search effort by authorities that extended into Saturday night, the man could not be located.

Fortunately, the teenager managed to survive the frightening ordeal. The family had arrived in Mauritius for their vacation just the day before, with weather forecasts indicating a storm approaching the island over the weekend.

Reports warned of strong winds and high swells, with waves reaching up to three meters on Friday.

A spokesperson for the Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office stated, “We are supporting the family of a British man who has died in Mauritius and are in contact with the local authorities.”

It is a heartbreaking reminder of the risks associated with sudden changes in weather conditions and the unpredictable power of the sea.
