Mauritius Shipping Corp Unveils 8200-tonne Peros Banhos Vessel
A ceremony was held in front of a gathering of guests this afternoon at the Cruise Terminal in Port-Louis on Wednesday 28th February 2024 to mark the christening and launch of the Peros Banhos.
The ceremony was followed by a tour of the ship by Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth and his wife, Kobita Jugnauth, the honorary godmother.
Prayer sessions were also conducted by several representatives from different religious communities in the country.
The versatile 8200-tonne vessel, designed by the Chinese maritime transportation company Huanghai Shipbuilding Co Ltd, was delivered to the Mauritius Shipping Corporation last December.
It measures 115.70 meters in length and 20 meters in width, and will be used for logistical transport and coastal shipping between Mauritius and Rodrigues, as well as between Mauritius and Agaléga.
Kobita Jugnauth, the wife of the Prime Minister, christened the new boat Peros Bhanos. However, according to Le Mauricien, despite two attempts, the champagne bottle refused to break on the hull.
The 8200-ton versatile ship, designed by the Chinese maritime transport company Huanghai Shipbuilding Co Ltd, was delivered to the Mauritius Shipping Corporation last December.
