Ashish Vijayakar Takes Reins at SBM Bank India

Ashish Vijayakar has been appointed as the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of SBM Bank India, a subsidiary of the State Bank of Mauritius, effective February 17th for a three-year term. The announcement was made on Friday, with Vijayakar expressing his gratitude to the Board for entrusting him with the leadership role to lead the bank’s growth.

With nearly three decades of experience in banking and financial services, Vijayakar is a seasoned banker who previously served as the MD and Co-Head of Standard Chartered Bank. His appointment was made in accordance with the approval granted by the Reserve Bank of India in a letter dated February 6th, 2024.

Sattar Hajee Abdoula, Chairman of SBM Bank India, expressed confidence in Vijayakar’s ability to strengthen the bank’s relationships with stakeholders, provide seamless service to customers, and enhance strategic initiatives with his expertise.

Vijayakar expressed his excitement to work with the bank’s talented team to build on the groundwork laid by his predecessors and drive sustainable growth for all stakeholders. Vijayakar holds an LLB (General) from Bombay University and a CA from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India.
