BIG BUST: 20kg Cannabis Seized, 3 Suspects Behind Bars

The investigation launched following the seizure of 20 kilograms of cannabis by officers of the Special Striking Team on December 29 in Chamarel, has taken a new turn.

Two residents of Le Morne voluntarily turned themselves in on Wednesday. They are Jean Johnnie Minerve and Jean Donifan Forlan Verloppe, aged 22 and 21 respectively.

Yesterday, the suspects were brought before court before being taken into police custody. It should be noted that a first suspect was arrested in this case.

Louis Ersley Venus was apprehended by SP Ashik Jagai’s team on January 17. Brought before court, the suspect was granted bail of Rs 50,000 and a recognizance of Rs 100,000.

It is important to mention that Ersley Venus’ DNA was not found on the seized items. This operation carried out by the PHQ Special Striking Team resulted in the seizure of 20 kg of cannabis with a market value estimated by the police at approximately Rs 60 million.

One of the suspects had even fired a gunshot. At the scene, officers found 20 kg of drugs, divided into three bags.

Two unregistered firearms, of calibers 12 and 16, were also seized. Five cartridges were also discovered.
