Rain alert: 4 spots to park & 6 emergency numbers
The Mauritius Meteorological Services (MMS) issued a heavy rain warning for Mauritius at 04:30 on Tuesday, January 30, 2024.
This warning will remain valid until 19:00 this evening. The MMS predicts that throughout the day, further clouds will develop in the west, south, and on the central plateau, leading to localized moderate to heavy showers at times accompanied by thunderstorms.
The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Centre (NEOC) has issued a Warning for heavy rain in Mauritius. Following these forecasts, regular police, the Special Mobile Force, the National Coast Guard, the Mauritius Fire and Rescue Service, as well as other specialized police units, remain mobilized in flood-prone areas.
Road users are therefore urged to exercise extreme caution in their travels. Concerning the capital, Port Louis, motorists are requested to avoid parking their vehicles in flood-prone areas such as underground car parks, as well as the following locations:
1. Poudriere Street.
2. Chaussée Street.
3. St James Court.
4. Along the Pouce stream.
If the weather deteriorates further and in accordance with the MMS forecasts, the police may implement a diversion plan in the capital, Port Louis.
