Brake Failure Investigation: Metro Express Derailment Leaves 2 Injured
The derailment of a Metro Express Road Rail Vehicle (RRV) at the Richelieu depot is currently under investigation by the police in the Western Division.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Thursday morning and resulted in two individuals being injured.
It is suspected that a brake failure during maintenance work may have been the cause of the accident.
As a result of the derailment, no trams were able to operate on Thursday, with services only returning to normal the following day.
The damaged RRV and infrastructure of Metro Express Ltd (MEL) are currently being examined by the police, who are also patrolling the surrounding areas to report any debris or foreign objects found.
Superintendent Guckhool is overseeing the police investigation, while MEL has launched its own internal investigation.
