Storm Alert: Private Sector Shifts to Telework, Public Sector Stays Home
Taking into account the Class 2 cyclone warning issued earlier today, as well as the weather station’s forecasts and the recommendations of the National Crisis Committee, Business Mauritius has advised its members to activate their internal protocols for severe weather and adhere to the established Protocol for Heavy Rainfall.
Following the guidelines set by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Committee, BM requested that all private sector employers prioritize telework as much as possible and prioritize the safety of their employees, especially those working in the capital and high-risk areas.
It also recommended to continue following the directives of the NDRRMC and the National Emergency Operations Command (NEOC) in the coming hours.
Additionally, there will be no work for the public sector, except for essential services. The Ministry of Public Service issued a statement through the government’s information service (GIS) this Tuesday morning.
“Following the latest forecasts from the Mauritius Meteorological Services issued on Tuesday, January 23, 2024, at 04:10 am, the Ministry of Public Service, Administrative and Institutional Reforms requests that public service officers do not report to work today, except those working in essential and emergency services and those authorized to do so.
The ministry urged the private sector to implement similar arrangements for their employees.”
