Nasty Bite: Inmate sinks teeth into guard at High Security Prison
It’s been a tough time for a Lead Prison Officer assigned to high-security prison Phoenix, formerly known as La Bastille.
Last Friday, during a body search of an inmate returning from the intermediate courtyard, the officer, along with a Senior Prison Officer, escorted the prisoner back to their cell.
However, the inmate allegedly bit the left arm of one of the guards. Bleeding profusely, the officer was rushed to Victoria Hospital in Candos for treatment.
The incident has been referred to the Vacoas police station for investigation.
The police are expected to visit the prison soon to question the prisoner regarding the motives behind this act of aggression.
In light of the investigation, the inmate may face charges of ‘Assault against an agent of civil authority’.
