Nearly 300 doctors have failed to obtain the required 12 points to renew their annual license.

In some cases, these doctors are retirees or now practice abroad. In all other cases, they simply failed the Continuing Professional Development programme.

This programme requires a total of 12 points to be obtained throughout the year. The Medical Council is now advocating for make-up sessions.

Approval from the Ministry of Health is expected. It is worth noting that Mauritius has approximately 3,000 doctors who practice in the public or private sector.

The Medical Council reminds all concerned doctors that their names will not be included on the annual list of authorised practitioners for this year.

They must submit documents confirming the attainment of a minimum of 12 points in Continuing Professional Development in order for this to be the case.

This will be followed by the registration process.

However, in light of the situation, the Medical Council is considering amendments to the law to allow for a make-up opportunity. Approval from the Ministry of Health is required.
