Mauritius Sizzles: Heatwave Sends Temperatures Above 35°C

Mauritius is currently experiencing a heatwave with record-breaking temperatures, ranging from 28°C to 35°C and above.

Certain regions in the northern and Western coasts as well as Port Louis are said to have registered up to 38°C.

The hot weather is caused by a warm air current and light breeze in the north.

This heat and humidity poses health risks, so it is advised to stay hydrated and protect yourself from sunburn.

Fans are in high demand as they provide relief from the heat.

The intense heat is expected to continue until the weekend when temperatures may decrease.

This unprecedented heat has raised questions about how we got to this point, with climate change being a likely factor.

Recent research by Météo-France reveals that, by 2100, temperatures in the southwest Indian Ocean may increase by 3°C to 5°C.

However, the warming is expected to be lower in the islands due to the ocean absorbing the heat.

Practical advice is provided for dealing with heavy thunderstorms, including taking shelter and exercising caution on the roads.

The northwest of Mauritius is under threat from heavy rain this Sunday, with the possibility of localized showers and rough seas. High-sea outings are not recommended.
