Mauritian Embassy Staffer's Residence in Chennai Raided in Illegal Forex Crackdown

The house of a Mauritius embassy staffer in Chennai was among the three premises being searched by India’s Enforcement Directorate (ED) this Thursday.

According to the Times of India, the ED, acting on information regarding illegal foreign exchanges, is investigating an international flow of illegal cash.

As a result, the residence of the Mauritian Embassy staffer (whose name has not been disclosed) is among the three being searched. The other two houses belong to local businessman Muthu in Sivaparvathi Nagar, Kolathur, and share market trader Ganesh in Venus Colony, Alwarpet.

Although the ED has not released an official statement regarding the searches, sources indicate their significance in cracking down on illegal financial activities.

It remains to be seen what evidence and findings these searches will yield in the ongoing investigation.
