Parliamentary Session Marred by Tension, Expulsions, and Controversial Suspensions

The parliamentary session on Tuesday was characterised by tense moments, expulsions, and clashes between government and opposition members.

Opposition Leader Xavier-Luc Duval and Local Government Minister Anwar Husnoo engaged in heated exchanges, with the Prime Minister defending his minister’s response.

Speaker Sooroojdev Phokeer also clashed with Duval and expelled Labour MP Shakeel Mohamed. After lunch, MMM MPs Joanna Bérenger, Ariane Navarre-Marie and Karen Foo Kune-Bacha were also expelled.

Rajesh Bhagwan faced a second suspension after a disagreement with the Speaker.

Bhagwan criticised the Speaker for allegedly favouring government officials and preventing opposition MPs from fulfilling their duties. He has been suspended for four sessions.
