Jugnauth to the rescue of Health Minister

Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth has defended Health Minister Kailesh Jagutpal against criticism from the opposition.

Jugnauth denounced the opposition’s criticisms, specifically in relation to a video shared by Labour Party MP Ehsan Juman that showed a poorly maintained storage facility at AG Jeetoo Hospital.

Jugnauth labelled the video as “fabricated” and stated that the hospital did not purchase the allegedly rotten tomato boxes shown in the footage.

He emphasised that hospitals are not allowed to discard expired products without following proper procedures, as it involves state funds. Jugnauth also addressed allegations of the Health Ministry purchasing wine bottles, explaining that they were served to foreign doctors performing free surgeries in Mauritius.

He argued that offering them dinner was a natural gesture and criticised Juman for attacking Jagutpal over the wine bottles.

Jugnauth intends to bring this topic up in Parliament and claimed that former Minister Navin Ramgoolam had purchased alcoholic beverages worth Rs 1.7 million.
