The Mauritius Labour Party sent a letter to the United Nations Human Rights Commission on 16 November, calling for tough action against the Pravind Jugnauth government for “abuse of power” and “arbitrary arrest.”

The Labour Party reportedly asked the United Nations to take severe measures against “the violation of democratic norms and of fundamental rights”.

Journalists claim to have been threatened on social networks for some time, particularly by a Facebook page that allegedly promotes the MSM ruling party.

The latest episode was the publication of a poster accusing them of being linked to drug traffickers.

Several journalists filed a police complaint accusing the administrators of the Facebook page of breach of Computer Misuse and Cybercrime Act.
