Another three die of COVID-19 in Mauritius, death toll close to 800

Three more people died of COVID-19 during the period 06 to 12 October 2022, according to latest figures just released.

As at 12 October 2022, there were 24 active cases of COVID-19, out of which 12 were admitted at the New ENT Hospital.

According to 2021 Health Statistics just released by the Ministry of Health, COVID-19 was the sixth leading cause of death in Mauritius last year.

Some 10,851 people died last year and COVID-19 was the direct cause of death of 785 people, 411 men and 374 women.

The top two causes of death are heart diseases and diabetes, which together account for 41.2% of deaths.

Meanwhile, there is no suspected case of Monkeypox in Mauritius.

However, heath authorities remain on high alert after several cases were recorded in the neighbouring island.
