Mauritius to soon introduce early disaster warning system

Mauritius will soon set up an “Early Warning System” in case of natural disasters.

Announcing the measure, DPM and Minister Minister of Local Government and Disaster Risk Management Anwar Husnoo said the system will provide advance warning to the population via social media or sms in case of a ‘flash flood’ or other disasters.

He explained that more than 60% of people in Africa are not informed in case of a natural disaster.

According to the ‘World Risk Report 2022’, Mauritius is now ranked 107th riskiest country, compared to 51st in 2021.
