Gov Employees Receive 10-Day Leave to Care for Sick Child

The 2019 Workers’ Right Act provides that an employee can take up to ten days of paid leave to care for a sick child during each consecutive 12-month period.

Following the 2023-2024 budget, the 2019 law was amended on July 20, 2023 to allow an employee to take paid leave in place of their annual/vacation/sick leave to care for their child, including adopted children, as well as their parents/grandparents with health issues.

Public sector employees have been informed through a circular that they can take up to ten days of leave to care for their parents and grandparents with health problems, which will be deducted from their paid leave entitlement.

They can also take unlimited leave, subject to their paid leave balance, to care for a sick child, including adopted children.

However, documents proving these relationships or medical certificates will have to be provided.
