Police, SMF & NCG Step In After 178.4 mm Downpour
Heavy rainfall has caused significant flooding in the Pointe-aux-Sables & Albion prompting emergency intervention of SMF & NCG. Several other regions across the country have also been affected, with some areas receiving high amounts of rainfall in a short period of time.
The Pointe-aux-Sables region has been heavily impacted by heavy rainfall, with downpours continuing since this morning April 21.
The Special Mobile Force and National Coast Guard have been called in to assist with water pumping in an apartment block.
Several regions across Mauritius have been inundated with rain, with Albion receiving the highest amount of rainfall at 178.4 mm in just five hours from 4:30 am to 9:30 am this morning, April 21.
Domaine-les-Pailles received 125 mm of rain during the same period, while Champ-de-Mars recorded 81.8 mm.
Beau-Bassin saw 79.4 mm of rain, and Port-Louis received 73 mm of rainfall.
The heavy rain has caused flooding and difficulties for residents in these regions, prompting emergency response efforts by authorities.
