4 Russian Planes Refuelled in Mauritius Stir Up Diplomatic Drama

The Americans are currently dealing with a delicate issue, with potential political and diplomatic risks for Mauritius.

Indeed, four aircraft from the Russian aviation company Aeroflot are said to have been refuelled at Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport earlier this year.

Initially, the consortium of oil companies supplying Jet Fuel to the airport raised concerns about this move.

However, on the recommendations from higher authorities, the four Aeroflot aircraft were refuelled like any other planes in Plaisance.

But more recently, these companies have received a formal notice from the US Department of Commerce stating that they may have violated US export controls by servicing Russian aircraft in Mauritius.

Fears of severe sanctions for breaching these regulations are being expressed as developments are awaited.
