Rs80M: Gov't Paying Up for Flooded Car Repairs

Damaged vehicles by floods: over Rs80 million disbursed. Nearly 700 cases have been reported by owners whose vehicles were damaged by the floods from cyclone Belal on 15th January, at the Special Desk of the Financial Services Commission.

Figures provided by the Minister of Financial Services, Mahen Seeruttun, this Saturday 3rd February. He was accompanied by MP Sandra Mayotte this morning.

Minister Seeruttun informed that 181 vehicle owners have been compensated to date. Over £80 million have been disbursed for this purpose.

By next week, nearly Rs150 million will be paid to 216 motorists. There are also other cases which are currently being evaluated, highlighted the minister.

He explained that 392 families have suffered losses in terms of food products. In this regard, Rs6.4 million have been paid out.

“We need to adapt to these extreme weather conditions,” added Mahen Seeruttun. The measures taken by the government following the Belal floods were once again listed by the Minister of Financial Services.
