Former Chief Executive Officer of Mauritius Telecom, Sherry Singh, has been arrested for the third time, this time for alleged corruption involving contracts for the Multi Use Games Area (MUGA) project.

The police have accused Singh of instructing others to commit misdemeanors and may recommend charging him accordingly.

They have discovered documents and information suggesting that certain companies were awarded lucrative contracts for the MUGA project as fronts and suspect Singh of being involved.

Mauritius Telecom is believed to have lost millions of rupees from the Mauritius Telecom Foundation funds.

Singh has not yet made a statement regarding the charges. The police also arrested Vidarmen Payen, director of Ergomax, which received a MUGA contract, but delivered poor-quality equipment.

The MUGA project aimed to promote a healthy lifestyle through physical activity and involved the construction of Wellness Centres in different regions of the island.

This is the fourth time Singh has been arrested, with previous charges including conspiracy for money laundering and conspiracy to defraud. He was also arrested for the disappearance of electronic data from his former office.
