Exposing Racism in Mauritius: 14 Days for Africans, 6 Months for Europeans
In a viral video: Steven Ndukwu discusses racism against black Africans in Mauritius, exposing cases of discrimination directed at black Africans, including Ndukwu himself.
The video, titled “Is Racism against Black Africans in Mauritius True?“, has gained significant attention on social media. Ndukwu shares his personal experiences of encountering discriminatory behavior from the moment he arrived at the airport.
The video, lasting for 18 minutes and 48 seconds, also includes testimonies from other Africans living and working in Mauritius, all of whom conclude that racism is indeed prevalent in Mauritian society.
Ndukwu recounts being questioned aggressively upon arrival, with customs officials subjecting black individuals to extensive searches.
He expresses disappointment over the disparity in visa duration between Africans (14 days) and Europeans/Americans (6 months), as well as the limited options for accommodation, which are primarily expensive resorts.
Ndukwu notes feeling singled out as the only black person at his place of stay and observes that, despite being an African country, Mauritius does not give off an African ambiance.
The video also highlights negative aspects such as the lack of politeness and arrogance among Mauritian locals, the high cost of living, and the lower wages paid to Africans compared to the local population.
