MCB Dominates with Over 7 Million Digital Transactions in December

The Mauritius Commercial Bank (MCB) has reported that it validated 10,000 banking transactions per hour in December 2023, either through its Juice platform or bank cards.

During the same month, MCB customers made over seven million transactions using Juice and bank cards, indicating a growing preference for cash alternatives.

Stéphanie Ng Tseung, Head of Payments at MCB, believes that digital payments have become ingrained in customer behavior, with cash becoming less important.

The use of cash declined by 3% during the period, while digital payments increased by 9%, with Juice transactions seeing a significant 119% rise.

Contactless payments also increased by 51%. Flight tickets were the most common online purchase, followed by shopping on sites like Shein.com, AliExpress, and Amazon, as well as Facebook and Google advertisements.
