Dengue Cases Surge After Rain: 30 Already Infected

Since 1st January 2024, the country has recorded nearly thirty cases of dengue.

With the recent heavy rains that have fallen on Mauritius, this situation could worsen, according to the Ministry of Health.

That is why fogging exercises have started to multiply. The country has about fifteen active cases. Most of those infected reside in the north of the country.

Following the torrential rains caused by Belal at the beginning of last week, a meeting was held to organize efforts to prevent the spread of these tiger mosquitoes.

Dr. Aswamed Dinassing, head of health services, explains that the fogging exercise is particularly carried out in the most affected regions, both in the north and in Port Louis.

He said, “We have asked the municipalities to do what is necessary to clean up areas that may be favorable for mosquito breeding.

It is also important for Mauritians to use common sense and take necessary measures at home.”
