Residents in Belle-Rose and Poste-de-Flacq are growing increasingly angry following the floods caused by Cyclone Belal. They are blaming the authorities for their lack of action.

The affected residents of Avenue De La Faye are demanding compensation for their losses and calling for urgent measures to prevent further damage from extreme weather.

Many families claim to have lost everything, and some even came close to losing their lives. They say the floods are a result of obstructed drains during metro construction.

The residents also criticize the authorities for not repairing a collapsed cemetery wall and for their lack of preventive measures.

Former Prime Minister Navin Ramgoolam visited the affected areas and criticized the government for spending money on drainage works that did not prevent the flooding.

He invited the Minister of Public Infrastructure to witness the situation firsthand.

Ramgoolam also expressed concern about the authorities’ priorities, saying they focus more on arresting government opponents than helping the affected population.

He criticized the government’s insufficient aid package for flood victims.
