French Tourist Robbed of Rs 32,000 at Botanical Garden
A French tourist was violently attacked and injured by a robber named Vishal Bunjoo at Pamplemousses Botanical Garden.
The incident occurred on Sunday, 14th January, when the 65-year-old woman was exploring the garden with a friend.
The criminal stole her handbag, which contained Rs 6,000, her wallet with Rs 26,000, credit cards, and hotel room keys.
The victim sustained serious injuries and received medical treatment at North Hospital. She provided the police with details about the attacker.
On Monday, detectives from the Criminal Investigation Division of Pamplemousses, led by Inspector Seepersand, successfully identified the suspect, Vishal Bunjoo, a 40-year-old repeat offender with a criminal record.
He confessed to the assault during an interrogation by investigators Mooneean, Sylva, and Simadree.
The police located the spot where he discarded the victim’s handbag but failed to recover the stolen money.
Vishal Bunjoo has been temporarily charged with violent robbery and remains in police custody until 22nd January. The investigation is being overseen by Superintendent Buchoo.
