Alan Wright, a former Senior Building Technician at the now-defunct DWC, has expressed outrage that no action has been taken in the 11 years since the deadly floods in the Port Louis region on March 30, 2013.

Wright, who lost his wife and son in the tragedy, has repeatedly called for concrete measures to prevent a similar scenario from recurring.

He points out that despite various reports and studies, the government has failed to implement any actions to address the issue.

He highlights the worsening situation, with blocked rainwater drainage systems, as evident when the recent tropical cyclone Belal hit the area.

Wright emphasizes the importance of proper drainage systems and regular maintenance to prevent the capital from turning into a basin during heavy rainfall.

He also criticizes the construction of structures blocking water outlets and calls for citizens to take responsibility for their actions, such as disposing of waste properly.

Wright demands a united effort among citizens, the government, the private sector, and technicians to create an action plan and take appropriate measures to permanently resolve the problem.
