Mauritius Met Director Denies Resignation Amid Flood Chaos
“I have never submitted any resignation nor have I officially stepped down.”; Ram Dhurmea has clarified the situation after the announcement made by Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth, stating that he has resigned as the director of the meteorological station following the chaos caused by the flooding in the aftermath of the cyclone on Monday.
In a letter addressed to the Chief of the Civil Service, Pramod Neerunjun, on Tuesday, 16 January, he asserted that he was ordered to step down against his will, pending an investigation to determine the responsibilities surrounding the management of the events on Monday, 15 January.
Ram Dhurmea claimed that he has never submitted a resignation, let alone “officially stepped down”.
In his letter, he expressed being “totally confused” upon learning of his resignation through the press.
He requested that the investigation be conducted as soon as possible, as this entire affair has created a stressful situation for him and his family.
In his letter dated 16 January, he stated that he expects a response within two days, otherwise, he would be compelled to seek alternative means to ensure justice is served.
