Air Mauritius has urgently requested a wet-lease for a widebody aircraft to address a sudden capacity gap caused by two of its planes unexpectedly going out of service.

The airline issued a request for proposal (RFP) with a deadline of January 15 for prospective lessors to submit their bids.

The RFP seeks an unspecified type of widebody aircraft on an ACMI basis.

Air Mauritius currently operates two A330-200s, two A330-900Ns, and four A350-900s, but recent operational challenges have led to disruptions.

Over half of the airline’s scheduled flights since December have been severely delayed or cancelled, impacting more than 66,000 passengers.

In addition to the shortage of aircraft, Air Mauritius is also grappling with a severe shortage of staff.
