Medication prices have not decreased even though the “Regressive mark-up” was implemented to reduce prices, according to Siddique Khodabocus, President of the Pharmacy Council.

Many pharmacies, operating at a deficit with a margin of 17%, are struggling due to this measure and alternative solutions are demanded.

Medication prices are affected by several factors, including currency fluctuations, raw material costs, production costs and transportation.

The Pharmacy Council has implemented regulations that allow pharmacists to make generic substitutions for medications to help patients access healthcare.

A “Professional fee” may be introduced to compensate for the time spent by pharmacists to provide advice to patients seeking their services.
