Agaléga Airport and mini-port to be inaugurated in January
Agaléga’s airport and mini-port, funded by India, will be inaugurated in January.
The Mauritian government has not yet announced if Airports of Mauritius Ltd will manage the airport.
The facilities, fully financed by India, will also have operational costs covered by the country.
The new 3 km runway will serve two islands, housing around 400 people.
Although the Mauritian government denies claims of it being an Indian military base, military aircraft and boats will be allowed with prior authorisation.
Maintenance will be carried out by the Indian government, while personnel will be provided by India and Mauritius.
The agreement between the governments remains confidential.
Agaléga’s infrastructure aims to protect maritime security and promote economic development.
