Port Louis Clock Tower to Be Pulled Down
The clock tower in Port-Louis, which has stood in front of the municipal building for 57 years, is in its final weeks.
The decision to demolish the structure was made due to safety concerns. The tender to find a contractor for the demolition has been issued, with interested parties having until January 24 to submit their proposals.
The project is expected to be completed in March. The municipality explains that the deteriorating structure poses a danger to passers-by.
It is a unique historical landmark and has served as an important timekeeper for the city. The clock tower, built in 1965, consists of four concrete columns.
