Opposition MPs Protest Outside Parliament, Express Dissatisfaction with Speaker

Opposition MPs protested against Speaker Sooroojdev Phokeer outside Parliament on Friday.

They expressed their dissatisfaction and indicated plans to escalate actions against the government.

Opposition leader Xavier-Luc Duval criticised the functioning of Parliament and called for more efforts against the Speaker.

Concerns were raised about the Financial Crimes Commission Bill, seen as a threat to democratic principles.

MMM’s Paul Bérenger condemned the Speaker’s attitude and accused Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth of tolerating such practices.

Patrick Assirvaden announced the intention to involve international bodies in the matter.

Nando Bodha plans to demonstrate outside the Office of the President if the latter gives his assent to the controversial law.
