Uteem: FCC a Tailor-made Whitewashing for Government Members

Reza Uteem, an MP of the opposition MMM party, has claimed that the Financial Crimes Commission Bill is specifically designed to protect members of the government from prosecution.
He highlighted ongoing investigations into cases involving high-ranking officials and claimed that these cases have not been concluded due to a provision in the existing law that requires the approval of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
Uteem argued that the proposed FCC Bill would allow the commission to close cases without the DPP’s approval, potentially enabling the government to whitewash allegations against its members.
He also criticised the Prime Minister for introducing such a law and accused the FCC of becoming a politically biased institution that serves to protect the government and target opposition figures.
