Middle Temple Association Joins the Controversial Bill Fray

The Middle Temple Association (Mauritius) is concerned about the appointment of the Director-General of the Financial Crimes Commission.

Lawyer Olivier Barbe, Secretary-General of the Association, stated that the Director-General should not be a political nominee and that such powers should be entrusted by the Judicial and Legal Service Commission.

Senior Counsel Rashad Daureeawoo, President of the Association, expressed strong reservations about certain sections of the bill and announced that the association will join the move to contest the constitutionality of certain clauses of the bill.

The debates on the Financial Crimes Commission Bill started in the National Assembly on December 12.
