Two solar farms in Trou-d’Eau-Douce, Mauritius, have been granted authorisation to generate 40 MW of electricity.

Stor’sun 1 Ltd and Stor’sun 2 Ltd received the necessary Environment Impact Assessment (EIA) permits from the Ministry of Environment.

The projects, with a capacity of 30 MW and 10 MW respectively, will contribute to the country’s goal of increasing the share of renewable energy in the national energy mix to 60% by 2030.

Despite the permits, the operators must comply with strict conditions and operate the farms for a limited 25-year period.

The French-owned group Qair, which also plans to build solar farms in Balaclava and Petite-Rivière, holds a majority stake in both Stor’sun companies.

The Central Electricity Board (CEB) has expressed interest in purchasing electricity from the projects.

The combined capacity of all the solar and wind farms operated by the group is 35 MW.
