Minimum Salary in Mauritius Goes Up By 29%
The minimum wage will be raised from Rs 11,575 to Rs 15,000 starting January 01, 2024.
This represents a 29% increase, Soodesh Callichurn, Minister of Labour, Human Resource Development, and Training has announced.
In addition to the raise, a Rs 2,000 Social Security Contribution (CSG) allowance will ensure a Minimum Guaranteed Income of Rs 17,000 per month for individuals.
Around 141,700 workers from the public and private sectors will benefit from this measure.
The minister said the government aims to support the population amidst global repercussions caused by the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
A compensation amount will be determined next week.
