Consumers’ Association Gears Up for Protests, Demands Drastic Cut in Fuel Prices!

The Secretary-General of the Mauritius Consumers Association (ACIM), Jayen Chellum, intends to escalate protests to compel the government to reduce petrol and diesel prices by cutting taxes and levies.
Chellum argues that the high prices at the pump are primarily due to overtaxation of these fuels.
Despite recent government measures, including a Rs 1 billion reimbursement to operators and injecting Rs 250 million into the Price Stabilisation Account, Chellum remains dissatisfied with the petrol price revisions.
ACIM is considering further demonstrations. Chellum emphasised that sustained public pressure will likely prompt the government to reconsider and lower fuel prices.
