On April 27, 2024, Bangladesh State Minister for Information and Broadcasting Mohammad Ali Arafat met with Mauritius Information Technology, Communication, and Innovation Minister Deepak Balgobin to discuss the importance of taking strategic actions to combat the spread of misinformation through social media.

The meeting took place during Ali Arafat’s courtesy call on Balgobin in a city in Mauritius.

During the meeting, both ministers highlighted the necessity of implementing strategic measures to address the dissemination of false information.

They also discussed opportunities for collaboration between Bangladesh and Mauritius, including the utilization of satellites, the use of technology by expatriate workers to send remittances, investment prospects in Bangladesh for Mauritian investors, and the presence of Bangladeshi workers in Mauritius.

Later that day, Arafat visited a spinning mill in Mauritius where he interacted with Bangladeshi workers employed there. He inquired about their experiences and engaged in discussions with them.

Arafat had traveled from Dhaka to Mauritius on April 22 to participate in the First Ministerial Conference on Drug Trafficking and Substance Abuse in the Western Indian Ocean.

The discussions during his visit highlighted the commitment of both countries to address issues related to misinformation and strengthen their bilateral relations.
