Nominal Debt Rises to Rs 524 Billion, GDP Improves

According to the latest data released by the Ministry of Finance this week, the public debt decreased from 81.8% of the Gross Domestic Product in March 2023 to 78.3% in March 2024.

However, in nominal terms, the debt increased from Rs 483.76 billion to Rs 524.72 billion over the same period.

This reveals a slight improvement in the debt-to-GDP ratio, but a significant rise in the total amount of debt owed by the government.
