A tropical depression that was developing northwest of Madagascar has intensified into a moderate tropical storm overnight and has been named Hidaya by the meteorological station of Madagascar.

However, this system is moving far away and will not have any impact on the weather in the Mascarene region.

This information comes from the bulletin issued by the meteorological station on Thursday, May 2.

Furthermore, a warning for high waves is in effect in Mauritius and will be valid until 4:30 am on Friday, May 3, 2024.

According to the weather service, mainly high-altitude clouds are passing over the island. The weather will be partly cloudy this morning with isolated showers in the highlands.

The maximum temperature will range between 24 and 26 degrees Celsius on the central plateau and between 29 and 31 degrees Celsius on the coast.

The minimum temperature will range between 19 and 21 degrees Celsius on the central plateau and between 23 and 25 degrees Celsius in the coastal regions.

The wind will be light and variable this morning and will blow from the east at 15 km/h during the day.

The sea will be very rough beyond the reefs with waves around 3 to 4 meters in height. These waves could break on the low-lying coastal areas, especially in the west, south, and east at high tide.

It is strongly advised for fishermen, boaters, and the general public not to go out to sea and not to venture onto these beaches.
