The political party Rezistans ek Alternativ has welcomed Labour Party Leader Navin Ramgoolam’s announcement regarding the proposal to make public transport free for all.

The party sees this as a feasible option, especially since a feasibility study has already been conducted on the matter.

The study was carried out by trade unions GWF, UBIW, and Rezistans ek Alternativ in collaboration with researchers from the University of Mauritius.

Devianand Narrain explains that this topic was discussed by transport unions during collective negotiations last year.

As a member of Rezistans ek Alternativ, he claims to have been involved in the feasibility study, citing the measure as a way to ease traffic congestion and for ecological reasons.

It is worth noting that Luxembourg and several cities have already adopted this approach.
