Mauritius Foreign Affairs Minister conferred top national recognition

The highest national decoration on the occasion of the Mauritius’ 55th independence anniversary – the Grand Commander of the Order of the Star and Key of the Indian Ocean (GCSK) – has been awarded to Foreign Affairs Minister Alan Ganoo for “his valuable contribution in the legal, political and social fields”.

Painter Vaco Baissac, who died on 5 February at the age of 82, was posthumously awarded the GCSK.

Eight people were elevated to the rank of Grand Officer of the Order of the Star and Key of the Indian Ocean (GOSK): the President of the Rodrigues Regional Assembly, Christian Léopold, Sarita Boodhoo, Mohamed Abdul Kader Mustoofa, Professor Ramesh Durbarry, Professor Vinesh Hookoomsing, Dr Kheshwar Jankee, former Supreme Court Judge Nalini Matadeen, lawyer Pramila Patten and barrister Gunness Ramdewar.

The awards were conferred by the President of the Republic, Prithvirajsing Roopun, on the recommendation of the Prime Minister, Pravind Jugnauth.
