Rashid Ahmine named Mauritius' Director of Public Prosecutions

Rashid Ahmine is the new Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) of Mauritius. He received his letter of appointment from the Judicial and Legal Service Commission this Wednesday, 21 December.

He will take office on Thursday 22 December.

Rashid Ahmine, who was previously Deputy DPP, succeeds Satyajit Boolell, who held the post for 14 years. Rashid Amine was called to the Bar of Mauritius in December 1994.

He joined the office of the DPP in February 1995 as State Counsel. He holds an LLM in Banking and Finance from King’s College London.

The appointment has reportedly come as a relief for many in the judiciary, especially after earlier reports claimed that lawyers close to the MSM ruling party would be considered for the job.
