Mauritius PM to Britain: It's time to correct historical error

The restitution of the Chagos archipelago to Mauritius was reportedly one of the points that Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth discussed at the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly on Friday evening.

Citing international rulings, Jugnauth said the UK did not withdraw from the Chagos within the deadline of 6 months.

“Britain can correct this historical error and rewrite this dark chapter in its history that concerns its last colony in Africa as well as the “shameful displacement” of a population.”

He urged the new UK Prime Minister Liz Truss to support the “decolonisation” of the Chagos archipelago and promote the repatriation of its former inhabitants.
